Episode 15 - Kon's Great Plan!

Rukia lies in Ichigo’s closet, unable to sleep, thoughts of the Ichigo vs Menos fight in her mind. She knows that the information on him defeating the Menos would reach Soul Society soon.

In the morning, a crying Kon, dressed like a baby doll complete with a flower stuck to his ear, wakes Ichigo. Ichigo, irritated, asks Kon if he had an epiphany pr something. This gets Kon even more aggravated and he starts complaining about Ichigo’s sister, who was supposed to wash him but instead, dressed him up. Telling Kon that the outfit looks good on him, Ichigo kicks Kon away, adding that Yuzu must have done this while feeling sorry for Kon’s dirty ass.

Kon continues to complain about the flower which Yuzu had glued on his ear, and tries to pull it off, but does not succeed.

Ichigo, seeing Kon’s distress and thinking that it would come off if he pulled with all his might, also tugs on the flower, causing Kon to cry out in pain. Ichigo then decides it would be no point, as Kon’s ear would come off first. Kon’s “soul”, which has “escaped” from the stuffed toy, curses Ichigo, who then, realizing the time, runs off to breakfast, stepping on him in the process.

Letting out a squeak when he thumped the floor with his fist, Kon wonders why, as their comrade of equal standing, he is the only one to get treated this way. He then makes up his mind to go on a journey to find a person who will embrace him affectionately; a place where he really belongs!

Ichigo knocks on his closet door, asking Rukia to hurry to go to school, and Rukia emerges and with a tinge of annoyed-ness scolds him for being too loud, telling him that she heard him the first time. This prompts Ichigo to ask what is wrong, but Rukia replies that everything is fine, except that she is a bit tired from the previous day. With that, she jumps out the window.

Meanwhile, Kon is walking along the streets, wondering what to do now, since he has no money and hence cannot go far. He then sees two of Ichigo’s classmates advancing toward him, laughing. He plays dead and lays in front of them, hoping that they will pick him, the cute stuffed animal most girls cannot resist, up. While the younger girl rushes forward with just the reaction Kon wants, the older girl stops her, saying that Kon is dirty. She then steps on him, who then squeaks and goes “oof!”

Realizing that this “stuffed toy” can talk, the two stare at Kon, who begins to sweat profusely, then decides to use his “powers” and runs off at high speed. The older girl puts down her bag and introduces herself as Kunieda Ryou of the Karakura High Track Team, with a 100m timing of 12 seconds flat. And she runs off after Kon, at an equally high velocity. Kon, with Ryou close on his heels, begins to weep, saying that all he wanted was to be treated nicely.

As Orihime walks along the road to school, she hums to herself, then notices Rukia walking ahead of her and goes up to greet her. Rukia, acting as usual, greets her amiably back, and accepts Orihime’s invitation to walk together. Rukia asks Orihime why she is so early, and Orihime replies with a little dance that summer vacations are around the corner, and so much goes through her head that she is unable to sleep. She then asks Rukia if she has any plans for the summer vacation, but Rukia has none. Orihime informs her about the big fireworks festival in August, saying that she and the rest had planned on going together. She invites Rukia to come along, as well as Ichigo, adding that it would be like when they filmed the Holy Ground Drop-In – lots of fun. Rukia comments that it was a chaotic day (because of what Ichigo had to do), and Orihime says that Ichigo actually has a nice side to him, like when he went to the even to be with his family. She adds that since he has a funny family, he should enjoy himself more, instead of constantly furrowing his brows. Rukia says that she thought that Orihime didn’t like Ichigo at first, but Orihime replies that actually, Ichigo has quite a funny face if you look closely. Rukia just laughs at that, and tells Orihime that she will think over the invitation to the fireworks festival.

There is quite a major traffic jam along a bridge, and a black cat with amber eyes looks on from the top of the bridge, then jumps down and lands perfectly on all fours, and scampers away.

Orihime holds a baseball bat and shouts that she is ready, and Kon is staring at her chest from a tree, chuckling to himself, pleased that he has found his “goddess”. He says that the last one was just a rehearsal, as all of Orihime’s friends cheer her on. His plan is to lie in front of her and play the helpless stuffed animal, such that she, who is “as kind as Kwanyin” and his target since day one, will embrace him gently and welcome him into the “valley of the gods”. As he rushes towards Orihime, he becomes aware of the ball rolling behind him, but before he can do anything, Tatsuki kicks the ball and Kon goes flying along with the ball! You’d probably guess what happened next. Kon gets slammed by Orihime’s baseball bat. How sad. He goes flying up in the air, shouting “IMPOSSIBLE!”, while Orihime cheers herself on.

Apparently, this game, “Baseccer” [think Baseball+Soccer], is the brainchild of Orihime, but Tatsuki thinks it’s good. Especially as Orihime is shaking beer bottles like she’s going to dump beer on the coach.

As Ichigo looks on, a soccer ball in hand, and Chad walks past, a whole cage full of balls balanced on his shoulder, Keigo jumps and lands on Ichigo’s shoulders and covers his face entirely with his arms, asking what he is looking at. He immediately jumps to the conclusion that Ichigo must’ve been looking at Orihime (obviously, so is he). Ichigo knocks him off, asking him to stop suffocating him and spouting nonsense. Keigo defends himself by saying that they are “healthy high school boys”, entitled to be interested in cute girls, and continues yapping.

Mizuiro throws a ball at Keigo’s face, telling him to stop slacking and help clean up. As Ichigo puts the last cage of balls into the storeroom, Mizuiro mentions that Ishida has not come to school yet. Keigo says that he saw Ishida the day before, mumbling to himself as though he were in theatre club and rehearsing his lines. He even says that he saw weird people around him: Tessai, Jinta and Ururu; as well as explosions. Ichigo thanks god that Keigo is stupid. Rukia watches from the window as the whole group of them make their way back into the school building, a sad look on her face.

Later, Ishida walks into the class, with his arms and fingers bandaged. He lies that he had fallen down the stairs. Everyone finds the excuse really clichéd, but the teacher just tells him to sit down so she can continue the lecture.

Rukia tells Ichigo not to think too much about it, as it is not his fault, but Ishida’s that he got those wounds. Ichigo says that he wasn’t worrying, and Rukia takes pleasure in saying that no-one had asked him not to worry. The rest of the class speculates the reason of Ishida’s injuries and late-coming, as Orihime and Chad merely look away or at their books. When Keigo asks Ichigo to go for lunch, Ichigo decides to ask Ishida along, much to Keigo’s displeasure as he thinks Ishida must be the least fun person to eat with. Ishida initially rejects the offer, but accepts when he hears that lunch is on Keigo. Rukia sits on a tree, remembering the Shinigami that had come looking for her earlier, thinking to herself that she was too suspicious and hence would not have much time left. Some other girls distract her thoughts by asking her along to lunch.

Meanwhile, at the Urahara shop, Jinta is making a fool of himself instead of cleaning up, and Ururu tries to get him to help her clean up, but Jinta just tells her to shut up. Then, the cat from earlier walks up, and Ururu informs Tessai and Urahara about it. Urahara immediately rushes out and exclaims, “If it isn’t Yoruichi-san!”, then picks it up and plays with it wildly. Tessai tells the two children that Yoruichi is Urahara’s closest friend. Jinta finds this really pathetic, and Tessai somewhat agrees.

As Ichigo, Keigo, Mizuiro and Ishida eat their lunch, no-one breathes a word and a dark cloud descends upon them. Keigo is feeling especially cursed and miserable, but suddenly, Chad appears behind him, startling him. Chad notes with mild shock the new member to the gang, then sits down in between Ichigo and Ishida. Ichigo asks Keigo to say something to entertain them. Keigo finds this an impossible task, but Ichigo threatens him and so Keigo has no choice but to say some weird, un-funny stuff about some pike in Meguro. Ishida asks Ichigo why he invited him, is it out of obligation for these wounds? He says that if that is so, then it is misdirected and an imposition. However, Ichigo says that he did so because he felt like it, and Ishida should be thankful to even be invited at all. Ishida does not agree, saying that he prefers having meals on his own, and Ichigo says that he too is that way. Mizuiro looks on as the two argue over who should turn away, thinking to himself that the two are almost identical.

Over at the Girl’s gang, everyone is eating small, dainty cakes, while Orihime pulls out a slice of cake four times that of the rest, saying that it is her lunch, a Castilla sandwich. Michiru and Ryou (Kon’s original targets) agree with each other that the reason Orihime eats so much and yet be so slim is because everything goes to her chest. Another girl, Mahana, asks Rukia if she has the hots for Ichigo, causing her to spit out her drink, shocked. Michiru says that Mahana is too straight-forward, but Mahana says that she is asking in place of them who dare not ask. Michiru tries to deny it, but Chizuru says that it was indeed Michiru who was wondering. Michiru says that she finds Ichigo’s face scary, but Orihime puts forth the idea that Ichigo’s face is funny, prompting Michiru to wonder since when the two had been comfortable with each other.

As Mahana asks her the question again, Rukia replies, with all the other girls looking at her, that Ichigo is merely a friend. Orihime has a warped idea that if all the girls fall for Ichigo, then the girls would have an “overwhelming victory”. Chizuru, however, says that she wishes to keep Orihime’s first look of ecstasy to herself. With that, she begins to strip, but Tatsuki, fortunately, stops her in time with a punch. Orihime tells Rukia that she will concoct a sweet-bean dish for the two of them to eat together, but Rukia tells her that she will think about it. Orihime complains that it is the same answer again. Rukia tells herself that this place is not where she is supposed to be.

Kon has found his way to Urahara’s shop and plans to use the weapons inside to punish Ichigo. Just then, Yoruichi comes along and spots him, but Kon says that just because they’re both in the cat family, they’re on totally different levels. He is a “lion-king”, so don’t pick a fight with him. Yoruichi just walks off.

Kon then jumps onto the window sill, chuckling to himself. However, he is spotted by Jinta and Ururu, both of whom are seeing mod-souls in stuffed toys for the first time. Kon is surprised at the knowledge, and Ururu tells him that it was Yoruichi who told them. It would appear that the three began to torture him.

Rukia clears out her desk and puts everything into her bag. With a sigh, she gets up and leaves. Rukia calls after Ichigo, and asks him if everything feels alright, and he does. Ichigo thinks, from Rukia’s words, that a Menos Grande would be coming, but Rukia says that a Menos Grande would not appear so often. Ichigo asks Rukia if something has happened that would explain her weird behavior, but before Rukia can reply, a very dirty Kon comes running toward them and launches himself onto Rukia’s chest, saying that it was wrong of him to run away from home, for with them is where he truly belongs. As Kon says that he will “go back” with them, Rukia says, “Go back, huh…”, prompting Ichigo to ask what is wrong. Rukia lies, saying that she thinks Kon is becoming very attached to him. Ichigo comments that Kon is looking in very bad shape, and decides to bring him to “him”.

This “him” is Ishida, but he has refused to patch up Kon. Ichigo says that it must be because his hands are in that condition, aggravating Ishida to the point that he grabs Kon and begins to patch him up. He has given Kon a totally new makeover, one that is much, much, worse than the one Yuzu had given him…
